Split Second at the Stone Pony

Split Second performs at the Stone Pony tonight in a battle of the bands. The performers are from Brick. Kevin Ramme is the lead vocalist and Joe Williamson a skilled guitarist. Mike Gentilello is on the drums and Kyle Groom plays bass. I've listened to their recent demo and enjoyed it very much. It's a young band with promise.

The Asbury Park Oyster Festival

On Sunday, September 27th there will be a huge festival from 11 AM until 7 PM. It's the Asbury Park Oyster Festival and takes place in the vicinity of Cookman Ave. in Ocean, NJ 07712. There is a large variety of activities. Included of course is eating and 10,000 pounds of oysters and a lot more will be available. There are also crafts, music and entertainment for children.

Pizza-Pasta-Pastry in Downtown Toms River

An Italian food festival known as Pizza-Pasta-Pastry occurs on Saturday, September 26th from 11 AM to 5 PM. The scheduling details are at the link. There will be contests, music and, of course, good food. Go to Washington Street in Toms River and enjoy the action.

Shows Courtesy of Ginger Ninja Productions

Ginger Ninja Productions, LLC is a company worth keeping an eye on for those of us looking for entertaining comedy and new sources of talent. At the present time GNP produces two comedy shows a month. Live Laughter is one of them and can be seen at P.O.P.'s Cafe in Avon-by-the-Sea on the first Saturday of each month.

Comedy Experiment is the other show. It can be viewed on varying Fridays at Uva Ristorante in Bradley Beach. A show to be held this Friday was the subject of a prior post.

GNP's Facebook site features photos and comments. Upcoming shows include Live Laughter on October 3rd. You'll see Sean Altes, Gordon Baker-Bone, Adam Lucidi, Alec Sobel and special guest Robin Fox. Mollie Sperduto will host the event. Comedy Experiment is scheduled for October 16th. Entertainers will be announced.

Uva Ristorante and Wine Bar features a comedy show on Friday, September 25th at 8:30 PM. Mollie Sperduto is the host. Asbury Park Oyster Festival

The Asbury Park Oyster Festival, in the vicinity of Cookman Avenue in Asbury Park, runs from 12 Noon to 6 PM on Sunday, September 20th. It does feature an oyster eating contest but there is much more. The festval is said to be family friendly and includes arts and crafts vendors, live music and a showcase for local area restaurants.

The Ocean County Superior Court is located at 100 Hooper Ave., Toms River, NJ 08754-2191. Those called to jury duty can check online to find out if they are summoned on a particular day. Greek Festival 2009 Resumes this Friday

Due to bad weather last week Greek Festival 2009 will resume on Friday, September 18th when it will run from 11 AM to 11 PM. It will also run on Saturday, September 19th when it goes from 11 AM to midnight. The event will take place at St Barbaras Greek Orthodox Church, 2200 Church Rd., Toms River, New Jersey 08753.

Irish Festival At The Jersey Shore

The Irish Festival At The Jersey Shore will take place on Saturday, September 19th at the Sea Girt National Guard Armory in Sea Girt, NJ. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $7.00 and at the gate for $10.00. Children under 12 are admitted free of charge.

There are a number of bands scheduled to play between 11:30 AM and 6:00 PM. Step dancers, exhibits and, of course, food will be at the site.

Pianist Michael Gomez on Thursday Evening

On Thursday, September 17th at 7:00 PM teenage pianist Michael Gomez will perform at the Toms River Library. His songs will include a variety of different artists among which are Beethoven, Debussey, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Elton John, Billy Joel and others.

A Greek Festival in Toms River

There is a Greek Festival currently underway at the St. Barbara Community Center and church grounds located at 2200 Church Road, Toms River, NJ 08753 (732-255-5525). The St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church is hosting the event. It started on September 10th and runs through Sunday, the 13th. Hours are from 11 AM to 11 PM, today. 11 AM to midnight on Saturday and on Sunday from 11 AM to 6 PM. Good food, games and amusements are available.

The Toms River Farmers Market

On September 9th from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM one can visit the Toms River Farmers Market at Huddy Park on Water Street. You'll find farmers from different parts of New Jersey selling freshly grown items. They include vegetables, herbs, fruits, flowers and organic produce. Also available for purchase are some locally made foods like breads, pastries and pickled products. Downtown Toms River is the sponsor and the event is held rain or shine. Celebrations at the Beaches and Blue Claws in the Playoffs

This blog will cover news and events which occur within the Jersey Shore area. The Labor Day weekend brings the official summer season to a close with some notable events at various beaches. A concert followed by fireworks takes place tonight at the main beach in Manasquan.

Another concert on the opposite side of the Manasquan Inlet is taking place at Pt. Pleasant Beach. There also will be fireworks there.

If you prefer baseball note that the Lakewood Blue Claws are in the South Atlantic League playoffs. An upcoming playoff game is scheduled for Friday, September 11th at 7:05 PM at FirstEnergy Park.
